Upgrading to a 3 inch performance exhaust improves overall engine efficiency by reducing restriction throughout the system. Mandrel-bent pipework, free-flowing components, and a performance muffler allow exhaust gases to exit more smoothly, which supports stronger power delivery and improved torque. Reduced back pressure also helps the turbocharger reach boost more efficiently, improving throttle response while lowering exhaust gas temperatures. This contributes to cooler operating conditions for both the turbo and engine under load.
Careful muffler selection keeps sound levels controlled without sacrificing performance. The internal straight-through design maintains consistent flow, ensuring gains are not compromised by excessive noise suppression.
The system is designed to fit using original mounting points and factory locations for a clean, reliable installation. A flex section is incorporated to absorb movement and reduce stress, helping to minimise the risk of cracking over time. Options are available in aluminised steel with a 2 year warranty, or stainless steel with a 10 year warranty for long-term durability in demanding conditions.
ECU Tuning Compatibility
To complement the exhaust upgrade, ECU recalibration is available for PX Ranger models. Custom tuning allows engine parameters to be adjusted to suit the improved exhaust flow, delivering noticeable gains in power and torque, along with improved fuel efficiency when driven sensibly. Unlike generic plug-in modules, this process involves direct ECU calibration tailored to the vehicle setup. Performance improvements can vary depending on model and turbo configuration, with earlier variants typically offering greater headroom for gains.
Exhaust Configuration Options
Quiet configurations use a larger straight-through sports muffler to significantly reduce noise while maintaining flow and performance.
Medium configurations incorporate a compact resonator to produce a deeper, more assertive exhaust note without becoming intrusive.
DPF-back systems include a small resonator designed to provide a modest increase over factory sound levels. As the factory DPF already limits exhaust noise, additional large mufflers are generally unnecessary.
Twin-tip exit options are available for those wanting a more distinctive rear appearance, featuring polished dual outlets that add a strong visual finish.
DPF Back vs Turbo Back Systems
Modern Ranger models are equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to reduce soot emissions. Exhaust systems are available in two configurations:
DPF-back systems replace the exhaust components after the factory DPF, similar in concept to a cat-back system on petrol vehicles.
Turbo-back systems replace the exhaust from the turbocharger rearward, including removal of the factory DPF. These systems require ECU recalibration to disable DPF-related functions and are intended for off-road or competition use only.
Future development is planned to introduce high-flow DPF solutions, aiming to balance improved exhaust performance with ongoing emissions compliance.
