If you own a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and have been waiting for a serious Australian-made performance exhaust system for the 6.6L Duramax, this is one impressive piece of equipment.
We’ve recently unpacked a Manta Performance 4-inch to 5-inch full exhaust system for the 2020-2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, giving us a chance to lay everything out and show exactly what goes into one of these systems before it finds its way underneath a truck.

As a Manta Performance stockist and installer, Welshpool Auto Service can supply, professionally install and arrange the appropriate tuning for Manta exhaust systems. American trucks are also one of our workshop specialties, so we’re able to look at the exhaust as part of the complete vehicle setup rather than treating it as an isolated modification.
A Performance Exhaust Built for the 6.6L Duramax
The Silverado 2500 HD is a serious truck and its 6.6L turbo-diesel Duramax V8 needs an exhaust system capable of supporting the enormous volume of gas it can move, particularly when performance modifications are involved.
Manta’s Silverado 2500 HD range has been developed and tested in Australia specifically for these trucks.
The full Turbo-Back configuration uses a 3.5-inch dump pipe directly from the turbo, moving into a 4-inch mandrel-bent exhaust system before finishing with a substantial 5-inch tailpipe.
That large-diameter design is about more than making the Silverado look and sound tougher. Increasing exhaust flow and reducing unnecessary restriction can support turbo response and the performance potential of the Duramax, particularly when combined with the correct engine calibration.

Here’s What You Get
Take a look at the photos and you quickly get an appreciation for just how substantial this system is.
Unpacked and laid out, the kit includes the large-diameter pipework required to run the system from the front of the exhaust through to the rear of the truck, along with the associated clamps, fittings, hoses and installation hardware.
Depending on the exact configuration selected, Manta offers the Silverado 2500 HD system in several forms, including:
- Turbo-Back systems
- DPF-Back systems
- Configurations with or without a muffler
- Turbo-Back options with or without a catalytic converter
- 4-inch systems designed to work with the OEM tailpipe
- Full 4-inch to 5-inch configurations with the larger tailpipe
This means we can discuss what you’re trying to achieve with your Silverado and select a system accordingly rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
4-Inch Flow With a 5-Inch Finish
One of the standout features of this particular setup is its combination of 4-inch main pipework and a 5-inch tailpipe.
For a vehicle the size of a Silverado 2500, the proportions simply look right. More importantly, the system has been designed around the airflow requirements of the Duramax rather than simply fitting an oversized exhaust for appearance.
Mandrel bending maintains a more consistent internal diameter through bends, helping the exhaust gases travel through the system with fewer restrictions.
The result is an exhaust designed around flow, performance and sound, while giving the rear of the Silverado the substantial finish you’d expect from a heavy-duty American truck.
What Does a Manta Silverado Exhaust Sound Like?
An exhaust upgrade on an American truck isn’t only about chasing a number on a dyno.
Sound matters too.
Manta has built a strong reputation for exhaust systems that give American trucks a deeper and more substantial exhaust note. Depending on the system selected, owners can choose between quieter muffled configurations and much more pronounced straight-through options.
For Silverado owners who tow or regularly cover long distances, a muffled configuration may make more sense. For someone building a performance-oriented truck and wanting to hear more of the Duramax, a more aggressive configuration may be the better choice.
We’ll help you work through those options before ordering your system.

Want to see more of the system and what you’re getting before installation?
We’ve put together a video showing the Manta Silverado 2500 4-inch to 5-inch exhaust system unpacked, giving you a closer look at the pipework, components and sheer size of the kit.

If you’re researching an exhaust upgrade for your Silverado, the video provides a much better sense of scale than product specifications alone. This is a substantial exhaust built for a substantial truck.
Does the Manta Silverado 2500 Exhaust Require Tuning?
This is an important consideration and one we’ll discuss with you before installation.
Tuning requirements depend on the model year and the Manta system being installed.
For the current Manta Silverado 2500 HD range:
2020-2023 Silverado 2500 HD
DPF-Back systems can be installed without tuning. Turbo-Back systems require appropriate tuning.
2024-2025 Silverado 2500 HD
Manta specifies that both its Turbo-Back and DPF-Back systems require tuning.
For the full Turbo-Back system featured here, custom tuning is required.
This isn’t something we’d recommend treating as an afterthought. Exhaust hardware and engine calibration need to work together correctly, particularly on a modern turbo-diesel with sophisticated engine management and emissions systems.
At Welshpool Auto Service, we can help coordinate the exhaust installation and appropriate tuning so the complete setup is approached properly.
Why Upgrade the Silverado 2500 Exhaust?
There are several reasons Silverado owners look at upgrading the factory exhaust.
Improved Exhaust Flow
A larger, mandrel-bent performance system can reduce restrictions in the exhaust path and provide greater capacity for exhaust gas flow.
Turbo Response
Reducing exhaust restriction can assist turbocharger response, particularly where the vehicle has been appropriately tuned to take advantage of the new exhaust configuration.
Performance Potential
For modified Duramax engines, the exhaust becomes an important part of the overall performance package. Increasing airflow into an engine only gets you so far if exhaust gases cannot efficiently get back out.
A Deeper Exhaust Note
A Silverado 2500 is a big American truck. Many owners understandably want it to sound like one.
Manta offers different configurations so you can choose between a more restrained exhaust note and something considerably more aggressive.
Built for Australian Conditions
Manta’s Silverado systems are Australian-made and designed for vehicles that may spend their lives towing, touring, working and covering large distances.
That’s particularly relevant here in WA, where a Silverado might spend one week around Perth and the next pulling a large caravan or boat thousands of kilometres north.
Professional Manta Exhaust Installation in Perth
Buying the right exhaust is only half the job.
Correct installation matters, particularly with a system of this size and complexity. Pipe alignment, mounting, clearances, joints and surrounding components all need to be checked properly.
Welshpool Auto Service is a Manta Performance stockist and installer in Perth, and we have extensive experience servicing, diagnosing, repairing and modifying American trucks.
We regularly work with vehicles including:
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500
- RAM 1500 and 2500
- Ford F-150, F-250 and F-350
- GMC trucks
- Other imported and Australian-delivered American vehicles
That means when your Silverado comes into our workshop for an exhaust upgrade, it’s being worked on by technicians who are familiar with the vehicle itself.
More Than Just an Exhaust Shop
One advantage of having your Manta system fitted at Welshpool Auto Service is that we can look after much more than the exhaust.
If your Silverado needs mechanical repairs, engine diagnostics, transmission work, suspension upgrades, servicing or other performance modifications, we can assess those requirements alongside the exhaust installation.
For owners building or modifying a truck over time, that provides continuity. We can understand what has already been done, what you’re planning next and how the different modifications need to work together.
